Greater reach and impact

Improving breast imaging access for a brighter outlook in East Africa

At GE HealthCare, we work every day to create a world where healthcare has no limits. That means bringing new possibilities to more people in more places.

In Tanzania, better breast care is needed. We are proud to support RSNA’s Global Center program and the 1st formal women’s imaging training in East Africa with our advanced technology. The initiative at Muhimbili National Hospital affiliated with Muhimbili University of Health and Sciences (MUHAS) introduces a new level of breast cancer screening that could change women’s health for generations.
At a glance

Increase access to innovation

Provides advanced mammography to a new part of the world with high breast cancer mortality rates.

Raise the standard of care

Work as leaders alongside RSNA to create a breast imaging program reference.

Empower radiologists

Give physicians the in-depth education to improve breast screening.

Invest in the future

Trains HCP who will then pass those imaging skills onto future generations.

A milestone for Tanzania

The first formal women’s imaging training program in East Africa

Muhimbili National Hospital affiliated with MUHAS is the leading public hospital in Dar es Salaam, a city of more than four million people.

RSNA GLC program

RSNA faculty members work with a local institution over a 3-year period to develop a customized curriculum. Visiting RSNA members provide specialized in-person training. This expands the capabilities of the institution and enhances patient care.

Cutting-edge technology

GE HealthCare installed the Senographe Pristina™ Mammography Suite, which includes 2D and 3D digital breast tomosynthesis, Contrast Enhanced Mammography, CEM biopsy capabilities and Seno Iris™ workstation, as well as provide maintenance of the system.

Empower medical team

Approximately 20 nurses, radiologists and techs are involved with the mammography suite. Live trainings under the GE HealthCare grant cover operation of the system, image interpretation, patient care, video tutorials, case study learning.

Awareness

In addition to improving the level of radiologic practice, the collaboration between RSNA, Muhimbili National Hospital, MUHAS and GE HealthCare will also work to raise awareness about the importance of breast cancer screening and early detection among Tanzanians.
