New to cardiac ultrasound? Diagnostic-quality images are still in reach

A clinician conducts a cardiac ultrasound exam for a patient in the hospital. Caption Guidance on the Venue™ family of ultrasound systems to perform heart scans guided by AI

Not all clinicians who work with POCUS are expertly-trained cardiac sonographers, however capturing diagnostic-quality cardiac ultrasound images in critical moments can provide vital information for informed decision-making and quality patient care.

Now even new POCUS users can use Caption Guidance™ on the Venue™ family of ultrasound systems to help acquire these sometimes challenging images. The on-screen, AI-based tool aids with turn-by-turn probe placement to capture the needed views. This allows patients to be scanned by more clinicians instead of waiting for a cardiac specialist to complete the scan.

Using AI tools like this can help bridge the gap between the number of patients who could benefit from ultrasound imaging and the number of clinicians who are available to provide it.

Caption Guidance: Feature snapshot

Caption Guidance aims to bring simple, quick training so that newer or infrequent POCUS users can successfully capture cardiac images, especially useful in care areas such as the emergency department, critical care, and perioperative anesthesia. The primary features of this tool include:

Prescriptive guidance. On screen graphics provide real-time, turn-by-turn guidance that prompts user movements to properly position the probe in order to capture the needed view.

A quality meter. The meter rises as the image improves and gets closer to diagnostic quality.

A Save Best Clip function. With a simple push of a button, this feature selects the highest quality image for each view from the continuous recording, sparing users the task of manually identifying the best available image.

AutoCapture. For cases where the quality threshold is reached, AutoCapture will automatically save the clip, hands-free, without requiring the operator to press record.

Features like the Save Best Clip function and AutoCapture make the scanning process more efficient and seamless for clinicians, helping them gain more confidence in their cardiac scanning. Caption Guidance allows for up to 10 cardiac views, providing users flexibility during image acquisition. To use this tool, clinicians need just basic imaging knowledge and completion of short, provided video training courses.

With minimal time investment in training, hospitals and clinics can increase POCUS access for patients. At the same time clinicians can harness the power of AI to capture diagnostic-quality cardiac images with confidence.

Caption Guidance AI-enabled POCUS scanning can help even new POCUS users obtain diagnostic-quality heart images.
